So been a little while since i actually talked about overall goings on.

I've pretty much been holed up at home, doing stuff for work.  I've just been put on a new project that is going to require the first stage done by Oct 3, and will be travelling to NYC at the end of this month to do a short seminar for a client.  Things are stop and go, busy or not busy.  so I have to try and keep myself busy one way or another.

Staying motivated has been the problem, and I've sorta put myself in a situation where I can't really get out of the house on weekend nights because of my existing work and personal schedule. I'm trying to extricate myself from it, but it's hard not feeling like i've given myself a ball and chain as it is.

And even if i were to get out and about, where would I go? I really have no clue.

I'm also sorta concerned that I haven't been able to sit down and get my postcards organized and sent out. I recieved them and just need to get all the addresses sorted and sent out.  Personal doodling is coming and going, depending on how busy I happen to be. I need to push out some more boards for JasonM, which are already thumbnailed out.  Just having trouble finding the time and motivation.

I'm also gonna have to start thinking about packing again soon.  I think we take possession mid October - We'll be just south of Kingston on BrookLawn..  so a bit closer to the downtown area.
Still thinking about moving out, but it will have to happen after this move, i think.  I just need to not live at home much longer after this.  Is really sapping my will to live :/

Parents just back from TO.

I've learned that they placed an offer (and were accepted) on a townhouse near my Grandmother's apartment. And, while they will not be moving over there any time soon, we will be taking possession in April.

I will probably also be heading over there after graduation.

This on top of a trip I have in mind over the February long reading week break - is part of 'teh plan'. Sending out samples for portfolio review, prepping to be available to the print industry overall (just as much as I would be in the digital sense) is something I've had in mind for a while and hopefully will be what sets the pace for my freelance life after school.

I'm sure full time work in this realm will probably not be immediate, but hope I'll still have some backups by that time. I still haven't really decided just which field i want to cement myself to (or if i want to cement myself to any one field - IE: freelance illo for print? digital? Continued content developement for 3D realms? Film Really not sure.).

I do find this move an interesting one though - and it's certainly something to work towards.

Playing Catchup

Hmm..

So i guess i should play catchup with my postings here and get back up to speed as far as what/how i've been doing since my post waaaaay back in uh...

October.

Things have been mostly ok - 3rd year illo ended uneventfully from my perspective, except for the usual blues that come with being busy, not being motivated and wondering when I will get out of the 'school' stage of my life and actually working at what I want to work at.

Term ended at the end of April, so I had a few weeks off before I got an assignment through Diversified Staffing - a 3 week position doing reception for a carpet company.

By late May, Mom, Dad and I flew to Toronto for a weeklong vacation. Spent the first few days of the trip actually in Toronto, visiting with family, gorging on dimsum (blech), shopping, etc. Spent 4 days roadtripping through Pennsylvania (Iron Bridge Inn OMFG YUM) and the Niagara region, shopping and sightseeing. Also met up with the Chanadians and OFU on the Saturday of Anime North, also during which I met up with Mark N. during the ZZ concert. Felt good to see everyone again after quite a long time (a few years in many cases).

About a week and a half downtown following return, and now I am working thru till August 2 (possibly longer) for the City again (again through Diversified).

As for my SL related stuff, most of it is caught up here ([info]aki_shichiroji) but I should mention that I've recently been contracted to do texture work for Aimee Weber Studio for their work on corporate projects in-world... so apart from my full time work, I'll be looking forward to a pretty busy set of evenings for a while too.

Hmm. I think that's about all I can come up with for now. I'm sure more will come to me as I think about it.

City of Calgary job

So for the last week or so, I've been occupying myself with a work assignment involving graphic design. I ended up putting together 23 posters, 6 signs, and 8 streams of programming info over 3 days for a Civil Engineering conference that's going on right now at the Hyatt Regency, partially sponsored by the City of Calgary, which I happen to work for right now.

Tiring, but fulfilling. Maybe I'll know to ask for better money next time :P

Anyhow, I took the opportunity to run down to the hotel and take a few photos for posterity's sake... )

Yaaaay I gots me a job!

Have been sending out resumes for the last week or so, after considering my open file with Diversified Staffing and how they hadn't phoned me back or anything to confirm my re-activation in their system.

As it turns out, they did have my file open and contacted me for work earlier today for a position with the City that will probably run in to July. Beyond that, we'll have to see what they have available.

Am going in to the DS offices to pick up a copy of what stuff i need to send in on a weekly basis, etc, then it's off for orientation at 1PM. I start on Monday!

Freedom!

Dropped by the Drum & Monkey with a few friends for a few beer and fries, and to blow off some pent-up steam that's been building over the last little while. Beer - good. Fries - uber salty. The place is also attached to Bamboo, which is a small but fun dance club. Spent a little time there, then taxied home.

Today marks the end of the final cycle that is Kinko's in my life. Have called work to make sure someone is covering that shift (which they are), so I'm going to sleep in, try to drop by the MIC meet, then head to school to get some more work done on the kids book.

Yay - freedom!
